Copper Re-piping

The Copper Repiping Guide

In everyday’s life, there are some situations that tend to be annoying. Of course, we will not talk about the problems from all the different spheres of life. Instead, we will talk about the problems regarding water installations all over the house. First of all, let’s consider some examples you are probably familiar with (if your house installation are older than 25 years).  You have probably encountered this before, rust colored (or even yellow) water, very low water pressure, tap leaking all over the place… What is the most common cause for these problems? There are off course various reasons the most common problem causes are:

1.       galvanized iron pipes; they have been used in most household since the 2nd World War Second, until the seventies

2.       low water pressure: the main “culprit” for this state (excluding the external causes) is rust and corrosion inside of the pipes (the galvanized iron ones)

3.       leaky pipes: the reason for this is the same as it is for low water pressure, since the corrosion makes pipes open to all kinds of damage

What are the solutions. Off-course, there are various types of solutions, we'll be focusing on copper re-piping. It is easy to conclude from the name that it is process of substituting existing pipes in the household with the copper pipes.

Water installations consist of two main structures: the first one is the pressure and the second is the volume. The pressure value informs us about the force the water goes through the pipes. The water volume is the amount of water that goes through the pipe in defined time unit.

However, most household owners tend to change their water installations when this things become critical; when the dishwasher takes a lot of tome to finish its job, the washing machine is terribly slow, the showering is not as pleasant as it used to be… So, when all of this things start to happen, it is time to re-pipe the installations.

So, the question also stands; why to use copper? There are several reasons for this. The copper is lightweight, it is safe and durable, and most important, it does not rust. One of the nicest characteristics of copper when using it for various types of jobs is also its flexibility. Professional plumbers can form and bend it within walls with minimum effort.

When talking about the work (changing existing water installation), it is not recommended to use DIY method. The complexity of this kind of a work is huge, and it is highly recommended to use professional plumbers to do that kind of task.

As conclusion to this article, we will mention a few advantages a household can have with copper re-piping:

1.       excellent water pressure

2.       improved delivery of cold and hot water

3.       faster dishwasher and washing machine work and no more leaking pipes
